CASE STUDIES

Quality management implementation project

Bristol Waste Company is the city’s recycling, waste and street cleansing company. The company was awarded a ten year contract in August 2016. The company has a strong focus on working with communities across Bristol to help them recycle more and throw away less.

The company has inherited varying working practices, procedures and documentation from previous Bristol City Council contractors. The company has been undertaking a comprehensive Transformation Programme to improve systems and culture. Alongside this, a decision was taken to implement an ISO 9001:2015 compliant quality management system in a 6 month timeframe.

Working as an Associate Consultant to ConsultQA, I was brought in to work with the Business Development Team to implement the quality management system. I was tasked with providing a structured approach to meeting customer requirements, both at the initial waste and recycling collection stage and the final process of selling recylate products. Having carried out a thorough gap analysis against the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, I am building on what the company already has in place to implement a structured system that is easy to use and also supports the future strategic direction of the business. The company continues to expand its portfolio as it has recently taken on the running of the city’s two household waste recycling centres and will shortly be launching a commercial business that will offer waste collection services to the private sector.
