ISO 9001:2015 is the Quality Management System standard and is probably the most well known ISO standard with more that one million companies and organisations certified to it. The document itself lays out the requirements and criteria for a robust quality management system and is based on seven quality management principles including Leadership, Engagement of People and Improvement. It is much more than a certificate on your wall – by integrating a quality management system into the daily running of your business, you can find information when you need it, reduce customer complaints and gain access to larger projects and tenders as well as to new customers. ISO 9001 is usually the starting point for businesses looking to gain certification – and a robust quality management system makes it easier to gain other certification as the business grows and develops.
