Environmental management system transition project

Burges Salmon is a leading law firm with one of central Bristol’s most eco-friendly buildings, One Glass Wharf has been awarded a BREEAM Excellent rating for its energy consumption and was designed and built with some of the most environmentally-friendly technologies available including cooling using the harbour water and rainwater recycling.

Burges Salmon has held certification to ISO 14001 since 2013 and needed to transition from the old 2004 standard to the new 2015 standard in 2018. HKW Risk Management worked with the Operations team to review and update the environmental management system, this involved carrying out a Gap Analysis of the existing management system against the requirements of ISO 14001:2015. We also carried out a review of 47 documents within the system and we managed to reduce this to 27 documents by simplifying and combining some and getting rid of others entirely which was very satisfying.

The outcome of the project was a successful transition to ISO 14001:2015 with no findings raised by the certification body.
